Biography

James Madison Gerren was a son ofJames Gerren Rosanna Booker, born in Ohio in about 1848. He died in Vernon Township, Isabella County, Michigan, on 13 February 1905.[1] The death record indicates his age at death as 57 years, 11 months, and 24 days, which would indicate a birth in February 1847. However, the 1850 U.S. Census recorded him as one year old, which would indicate a birth in 1848 or 1849.

The 1850 U.S. Census recorded one-year-old James Gerren in his parents' household in Chester Township, Morrow County, Ohio. The household consisted of 42-year-old farmer James Gerren; Rosannah Gerren, 37; Samuel Gerren, 16 and a laborer; Mathias Gerren, 14; Louisa Gerren, 11; Jemima Gerren, 8; Elizabeth Gerren, 4; and James Gerren, 1. According to the record, the elder James Gerren was born in New Jersey and all other family members were born in Ohio.[2]
