Jim was born in 1981 at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida to Albert Joseph and Ivy Lynn Masters Gervais. He is Albert's only son and Ivy's oldest son. He was raised several blocks from his dad's parents home, and as he became old enough he would ride his bike to visit them often to play cards. My dad, Jim Masters and his name sake, bought him a tiny blue quad runner for his sixth birthday. Jimmy would spend hours riding it around the empty Cape Coral lots that surrounded our house. Because the Cape's population was way less dense then, he spent a lot of time playing outdoors. We even had purchased fourteen acres in North Cape Coral as a horse boarding facility, so he spent a lot of time there as well playing with the horses, and the pygmy goats, which showed up one Christmas morning at the property's main gate.
His parents divorced in 1989, and many things changed, but he was able to stay in his childhood home and attend the same school. As he got older, the neighborhood kids would come to play and hangout at his home. During this time, he was very active in his church home, Life Church. He played the guitar, performed with puppets for the youth, helped with videoing the main services, and was a youth leader. Due to constant and irreconcilable bullying at Gulf Middle School, his mom decided to do foster care, so she could home school him through 12th grade. He became the youngest certified specialized therapeutic foster care provider in order to help his mom with this job.
His mom remarried in 1997, and again things changed. He had to deal with a step dad. Adjustment was difficult for all parties and the church youth pastor did not help. Around 1998, Jim was stripped of leadership because he committed to play his guitar at another church's youth group on an off night from Life Church. Then the youth pastor at Life Church decided to start home youth meetings on Thursdays and told Jim to attend or be stripped of all leadership roles in the church, knowing of his other commitment. At the age of seventeen, with the prompting of this same youth pastor and no where else to go, he moved into his girlfriend's mom's home. His dad refused to let him live with him saying that it would ruin their relationship. Needless to say, this strained the relationship with the church, so Jim and his mom both withdrew their membership.
He married Stephanie Mohney with her new born daughter on 7 Jul 2004. They moved several times within the state of Florida and settled down in the Ocala area. During this time, they had two children, a girl and then a boy. Jim worked for the Correctional facility in Marion county for a few years and then started his business, Skye Moving. Stephanie pursued a divorce about this same time, which was granted 23 Mar 2016.
