Hugh Giffard and Sibyl de Cormeilles appear to have had eight children, four of whom were ecclesiastics -

• archbishop Walter,
• bishop Godfrey,
• abbess Mabel of Shaftesbury
• Rev. Hugh Giffard.
• Alexander was the crusader who died at Mansoura in 1250
• William Giffard of Barrow, Suffolk, who married Katherine Passelewe Domine Katerine, uxori domini W. fratris mei ) and had John Giffard of Weston sub Edge who would most probably be Johanni Giffard, nepoti meo.
• Maud, who married, first, a de Freville and had two sons, who aren't mentioned as nepotes in the will, so may have already died. Alexander de Freville (Alexandro de Frivill ) could have been the issue of one of them, which would place him born c1275 and would make his wife, Joan ( domine Johanni, uxori domini Alexandri Friville ) probably Joan de Cromwell. Maud married, second, William de Ebroicis and had another son ( magistro J. de Ebroyc', nepoti meo );
• Alice, the last child, may have married de Aucher and produced Margarete Aucher, nepti mee, de Schaftebure; domino Henrico Aucher, militi, nepoti meo; and Ricardo Aucher, nepos meus.
  

Margaret de Neville, nepti mee, seems to fit into the general category of nepotes shown in the will, as grand-children of Hugh Giffard of Boyton, whether she was the daughter of William or of one of his sisters. This suggests that she first married John de Neville and that he was a nephew by marriage of archbishop Walter.

The Boyton line and the Brimsfield line of John Giffard (1231-1299) come together at the common ancestor, Elias II of Brimsfield. Elias III and Walter of Boyton, father of Hugh, were brothers. This makes John Giffard of Brimsfield second cousin to bishop Godfrey of Boyton and to Willam, the suggested father of Margaret. Because of the longer generations in the Brimsfield line, John and Margaret would seem to be related as alleged, in the third and fourth degrees (John - Elias IV - Elias III - Elias II), (Margaret - William - Hugh - Walter - Elias II).
