Biography

Edgar was born at Maitland in 1876. He was the son of George Henry Gill and Mary Ann Long.^{[1] [2]}

On 9 Nov, 1889, a ceremony was held to celebrate the opening of the new school buildings at Brokenback school (Brunkerville Public School). The Hon. J. N. Brunker, Minister of Lands, was invited to attend the opening. A young Edgar was selected to read an address on behalf of his fellow pupils, which read as follows:

"Sir, - We, the pupils of the Brokenback Public School, hereby desire to express the pleasure of seeing in our midst one, who by his untiring zeal in his country's cause has won for himself such high honors.

Signed on behalf of the pupils:- Edgar Gill, Thomas Blissett, Sydney Foster, James Clifton, Sydney England, Thomas Lister, William Harris, Archibald Barnier, Isabella Wyborn, Caroline Field, Elizabeth Blissett, Ellen Ashton, Ada Osland, Selina Buckton, Elizabeth Foster, Elsie Monnox, Amelia Bailey, Eva Claydon, Jane Lambert, Ada Murrell, Ethel Murrell, and Maude Wyborn."^[3]

He married Jessie Helenor McDonald in Kurri Kurri in 1912. ^[4]

He passed away at Maitland in 1963. ^[5]

He was buried at Brunkerville Uniting Church Cemetery.^[6][7][8]
