Biography

John Goddard was the son of John Goddard and Elizabeth Berenger. He was named in the 1501 will of his paternal uncle John Goddard of Ogbourne St George where he was described as John, the son of my brother John.

He married Elizabeth Fettiplace in about 1538 as his father's will mentions a deed of 1538 relating to the marriage. ^[1]

He died in 1567 having left a will naming his (second) wife Alice and children Anthony, Thomas, William, Edmund, Ann, John, Dorothy and Vincent. ^[2]

"John Goddard, of Standon Hussey, Wilts, esq. Will dated July 12, 1567. [31 Steward.]

• To be buried in Hungerford Church.
• My sons Anthony, Thomas & William.
• My daughter Ann.
• My son John
• My son Vincent.
• My wife Alice.
• My son Edmonde.
• My son in law John Cooke.
• My daughter Dorothy Cooke.
• My brother Edmund Hungerford.
• My cousin John Tutt."^[3]

John was buried in August 1567 in Hungerford, Berkshire, England.^[4] The register noted that Mr John Goddard Esq had died on 13 August at Standen Hussey and 10 shillings had been paid for his mortuary costs.
