Lucy Godfrey was married to Lieutenant John Cameron, an officer with the Kings Orange Rangers during the Revolutionary War. They settled at Spanish River, just outside Sydney, Cape Breton after the war. In 1811 Lucy petitioned the government for a lease of land at Cow Bay, Cape Breton - in the official records it is noted: "Petitioner has lived in Cape Breton for 25 years. Many years before she was married to John Cameron, a lieutenant in the Orange Rangers, who abandoned his wife and large family. Petitioner has since supported herself and family without public aid.
