Biography

According to the famous Pulitzer Prize winning Historian, David McCullough, history is simply “who we are and why we are the way we are.” How can anyone possibly dislike that? Over my years as a Professor of History, I have come to appreciate that history should be a compelling story that opens a window to the past, provides insights for the present, and wisdom for the future." DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Ray or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ray:

Louise;

I'll have to look into it. I'm interested in SOULE because of my descendancy,but another reason is because I grew up about 15 miles from Middleboro Ma where George Soule lived and had his mill. There were a few families in Whitman (where I spent my youth) with Soule as a surname and they most probably were his descendants.

Ray, good to see another Soule listing. There is a section of the Soule project housed with Familytreedna which deals with assorted Sole/Soul/Soule lineages. The y-DNA of George Soule/Sol, passenger in 1620 on the Mayflower, is known: I1a. Most of the English Souls/etc. are testing in haplogroup R. Got anyone who can test as a descendant of Moses Soule?

I see that you have recently taken on management of 3 Bonney profiles (Arthur Roscoe, John C. and Nathaniel Perkins). Thank you. To the best of family figuring these are ancestors of my mother-in-law as her father was Gerald Blakeslee Bonney, son of Giles Booth Bonney, son of Nathaniel Perkins Bonney. The two of you may be very distant cousins.

Gail;

Yes, it is quite possible. My great grandmother was Mary Bonney, one of the Hanson Mass Bonney's of which there were quite a few. Her daughter Lizzie Cushing Hatch was the wife of my great grandfather William H. Easterbrook who I had the privilege of knowing personally for the first 20 years of my life. (oops I'm showing my age). The Bonney's have quite a line coming to America during the puritan migration period starting in 1620.

Hi Raymond,

Why did you remove the parents from Nathaniel Sampson? Could you please add an explanation to Nathaniel's profile and the profiles of his parents? When you make relationship changes please add a research note or profile comment to explain the reason you are disconnecting family members. Better yet, it is preferred that you communicate before editing/disconnecting profiles. See: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Communication_Before_Editing.

Thanks, Traci

Traci;

As I explained yesterday I thought Benjamin was the wrong parent for Nathaniel. I'm sorry I made a mess of it; if you want to straighten it out I would appreciate it.

thank you;

Hello Ray,

Thanks for your adoption and updates to Barden-2.

For the very specific death information, you added to him: 14 Feb 1774 in Hanover, Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States, can you please let us know where you got that information from so that other researchers are able to reproduce your work? An inline citation in the biography section would be most helpful.

Thanks.

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Thank you Cheryl . I find the people on WikiTree to be quite passionate in a nice way and enjoy immensely the comments. I am continuing the work of my cousin who can no longer; I come from a town very close to where so many descendents of the Mayflower pilgrims put down roots and am fortunate that my cousin has documented their travels and am in the process of transcribing them onto the WikiTree data base.

Hello Raymond,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See:https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles#Cite_reliable_sources).

Thank you for adding your DNA Test to your profile on WikiTree. Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

DNA at WikiTree provides a visual way for you to find others who have tested and have the potential of having common ancestors. To get the best results, you need to start with yourself and add sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to existing profiles in WikiTree. 24 hours later, your test will have populated on the profiles of your ancestors and their descendants, where others with potential matches may also appear.

Let me know if you have any questions, and have fun!

P.S. Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile as the links will work from there. Please ask if you have any questions

Thank You Azure. I am having a problem entering data prior to 1700. It keeps asking me to validate or check to see if a profile exists. I didn't find one but am still being stymied . My goal is to input my lineage back to the Mayflower Pilgrims.
