Biography

Angelique was born in Dec 15 , 1818 at St. Boniface to Louis Jean dit Godon and Louise Godon She died sometime after 1901 as she appears in the census. In 1830 Angélique married Joseph Dodet Parenteau (b. 1810), the son of Joseph Parenteau Sr. and Suzanne Richard.

Angelique and her sons spoke the Nakota (Assiniboine) language. ^[1]

In 1850, Angelique (37) lived in Pembina County, Minnesota, US with her husband Joseph (45), her children: Joseph (28),Baptiste (17), Justice (15) , Gabriel (13), Rapelie (11), Alexandre (9), Eliza (7), Annais (4) and Abraham (1)l

In 1875, their family was living in the northern part of Section 30 at St. Laurent.

In 1901, Angelique, now widowed lived in the North West Territories with her son Gabriel (37), his wife Genevieve (32) and their children: Marie A (14), Joseph (13), Albert (10) and Baptiste (8).

Angelique Godon was listed as having a father & mother of Assiniboine descent; (scrip) claim no: 3196; date of issue: December 18, 1884 (GGGG granddaughter has a copy of the scrip)

Research Notes

Further research should be done to confirm that the death information is in fact for the proper Angelique.

PHOTO:

A photo has been circulating with the claims of being Angelique. After doing some research I found it to not be her. The woman in the photo is Henriette (nee Landry) Dumas. I have seen it attributed it Angelique on Ancestry as well- and it clearly is not her.
