  • This is from the family tree information (which is solely, at this time, word of mouth). I do ask that the profile is respected as being from the traditional use of Oral history. Though Oral history can be hard to quantify to today's standards, it is nonetheless important (and should be respected as such).

Godon-20 and Jean-1089 appear to represent the same person because: these are in fact the same person. Louis/Louison Godon was actually baptized as Louis Jean dit Godon therefore his NAB should be Jean

For anyone researching Louis Godon- please take a good look at his Voyageur contracts- that are attached to this profile and you will see the Louis Godon is said to be from Batiscan/ St Genevieve de Batiscan. He travelled with Alexandre Henry to Manitoba/ Dakota and he originated in Quebec.

He has baptism records there as well as marriage records to Therese Guibord. He was in fact baptized as Louis Jean dit Godon. He continued to be referred to as Godon. Please see Jean-1089 for all sourced document images to show this. Thanks, E Godon

The original Godon-60 profile was renamed to Jean-1089 because I made an edit to the profile.

Technically Louis’s name at baptism/ birth was Jean dit Godon. As soon as I made that change, the system changed the profile ID.

Jean-1089 is in fact the same person as Godon-20. The profiles should be merged.

The manager of Godon-60 had been trying to merge with this profile, but that profile (Godon-60) seems to have been merged with another (Jean-1089). This is the error message that I received: This action cannot be completed because Godon-60 has been merged into another profile. It may be that the merge you are trying to do has already been done by someone else.

I was trying to add Godon-60 to unmatched merges (as the Godon-60) profile manager had asked for a merge, and I asked to hold off until we could sort if it was the same person (I had doubts due to the locations being different).

Godon-20 and Jean-1089 do not represent the same person because: adding to unmerged while working with other profile manager (who has the name Louison, not Louis, and area is not Pembina- but Quebec area)

Godon-20 and Godon-60 appear to represent the same person because: I adopted Godon-60 profile and have noticed that your Godon-20 is the same, although there are some changes that definitely need to happen once merged. I have been researching my 4X Great Grandfather for many years and have lots of sources for it all.
