Biography

When Nancy Anna "Anne" Gossett was born on November 10, 1822, in South Carolina, her father, Elijah, was 23 and her mother, Sydney, was 22. She had seven sons and seven daughters with Henry Bartow Lockaby between 1841 and 1874. She died on May 16, 1898, in Clay County, North Carolina, having lived a long life of 75 years, and was buried in Hayesville, North Carolina.

When Anna Gossett Lochaby died May 16, 1898, Henry, age 81, was grief-stricken. Standing by the side of her grave, he said "Before it rains on her grave, I'll be lying beside her." Six days later, May 22, 1898, Henry died and was buried beside her. Find-a-Grave Memorial
