Biography

According to the biography of Lowden Brown, Elizabeth's husband, (History of Caldwell County, Missouri (p. 268-269), Elizabeth Gover was born in 1795. She was the daughter of John Gover and Mary (Dyer) Gover.

Elizabeth (often spelled "Elisabeth") grew up in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, with at least two siblings, brothers John Gover III and Samuel Daniel Gover.

She married Lowden Brown (who sometimes appears on the census records as "London Brown") about 1812, at the beginning of America's second war with England. They had 11 children, with their first child, Nancy being born 1813 and their last child, Jane, born 23 years later in 1836.

The family moved to Pulaski County, Kentucky, before 1820 and moved to Caldwell County, Missouri in the autumn of 1838.

Elizabeth Brown lived long enough to see the Civil War.

She died in 1877 and is buried at the Brown Cemetery in Kingston, Caldwell County, Missouri.

Her tombstone lists her death in 1877, at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 4 days, suggesting a birth year of 1793. While possible, it is more likely the math was wrong, and she was born in 1795 and died in 1877, at the age 82 years, 11 months and 4 days. This would also fit with the birth dates of her older and younger siblings.
