Biography

Stephen was baptized on May 19th, 1776 in Lebanon, York, Maine though his children all stated he was born in Kennebunk.

He was a mariner by trade and in the year of 1800, the schooner he owned with Stephen Wise and William Hubbard, the Paragon, was the scene of a French assault on American Shipping industry. After they departed St. Vincent in December and headed home to Kennebunk, their ship and goods were seized by a French privateer. The majority of their crew was replaced but the few remaining men, including Stephen Grant, overthrew their captors by force and regained full control of the ship.

Stephen was lost at sea on July 7th, 1813 leaving his wife with 5 young children not counting the twins she was pregnant with at the time.

Was his grandmother's maiden name Goodrich, Goodwin, or Curtis? Until the two profiles for his father are merged, the merge of Grant-8095 and Grant-7889 should not be completed.
