Biography

Dr Jens Jensen aka “James or Dr. J.J.” Grass. was born 28 Apr 1848 in Denmark. He was christened in Bjerreby sogn, Svendborg amt., Denmark.

He married Miss. Karen/Carrie Pedersen on March 21, 1870. The family lived in Denmark until 1888 when in the spring they came to America, landing in New York in April. It was May the same year that the family came to Owatonna, Minnesota to make it their home.

Dr. Grass had been a resident of Owatonna for 33 Years. He was a veterinary surgeon.

After his first wife passed away in 1906, Dr Grass married Anna Maria Christine Christiansen Peterson on March 21, 1911. Dr. Grass and his first wife Carrie had twelve children together.

He passed away 7 Dec 1921 (aged 73) in Owatonna, Steele County, Minnesota, USA.

On the Find A Grave Index it states in one of Dr. J.J.'s obituaries that his first wife's maiden name was Carrie Thompson. This is incorrect, possibly from a misprint in the paper, or the family gave incorrect name. His first wife, Carrie Pedersen memorial page on Find A Grave Index is Carrie Thompson Grass, that is incorrect, it is the right person, wrong maiden name.
