Do you think it is possible this lady was first married to George W. Blanton? And that the date given here for her marriage to Andy Higgins is actually the date of her marriage to George W. Blanton?
I found a marriage record on Ancestry for Geo. W. Blanton and Nicey Green, 18 Sep 1884.

Ceremony performed by U (?) D. Harrill. Witnesses were D. N. Hamric, J. M. Blanton, and J. L. Green. The J. L. Green could have been the father of Nicey Green. George W. Blanton (son of Elijah Blanton) had a half-brother named James M. Blanton. His mother (Elijah Blanton's second wife) was Nancy Harrill.
They were the parents of at least two children:
1. Zora Lee: "North Carolina Births and Christenings, 1866-1964", database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:HRQ2-T3T2 : 12 February 2020), Roxana Green in entry for Zora Lee Blanton, 1885.
2. Bessie Burah: "North Carolina Births and Christenings, 1866-1964", database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:HRQ2-TQW2 : 12 February 2020), Roxana Green in entry for Bessie Burah Blanton, 1886.
Nicey's oldest child by Andy Higgins was born in 1894. It is hard to decipher, but I believe the 1900 United States Census indicates that Nicey and Andy had been married seven years, which would have made their marriage in 1892-1893 rather than in 1884.
It is possible that George W. Blanton died in 1892. Some suggest that a grave in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery is for him even though his memorial has it attributed to C. W. Blanton.

1900 US Census - three step-daughters of Andrew Higgins are all Blantons; 1910 US Census - one step-daughter, last name Blanton, still in household.
