This Greene family descended from John Green of Quidnessett, Rhode Island. He was born in 1606 in Gillingham, England.

"Information from the Will of Joshua Green filed in Albany, Albany County, New York. He wrote his Will on May 5th, 1783 at New Lebanon then located in the King's District in Albany (now Columbia) County, New York. The Will was proved on September 2nd., 1785. His son-in-law, Josiah Skinner was appointed Executor by Henry Oothoudt, one of the Surrogates of Albany County at the time. I have a copy of the original Will & the codicil which I have posted to this profile. He was buried in the Greene Cemetery located in Lebanon Springs, Columbia County, New York. William L. Fox."

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joshua by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joshua:

Ron, I have added new data to our Green Family profiles and have added the only son of Joshua Green, Sr. by his second wife, Alice (Wait) Potter.

The family of our Joshua Green used the "GREEN" spelling of their surname exclusively and have for many generations. I adhere to their preference. Your ancestor, Sgt. Joshua Green and his oldest son, Benjamin S. Green have that spelling engraved on their headstones. I can't say how your ancestor, Anna (Green) Babcock spelled her surname since I have not found a cemetery marker for her. Even the various census records invariably use the Green spelling when the census takers seem to take liberty to spell the surname as they saw fit.
