Biography

Susannah Greenleaf, the daughter of David Greenleaf and Mary Johnson, was born on December 22, 1772. There is record of baptism for her from Lancaster, Massachusetts, so she may have been born there. However, that record is dated January 5, 1772, which was before she was reportedly born.[1][2][3]

She married Maj. John Ripley, of New York.[1][2][4] Children:

  1. John Ripley, born about 1792; married Diana Westfall; died January 22, 1860.[5]
  2. Eliza Ripley, born March 17, 1792; married, March 31, 1813, Frederick Augustus Tracy; died November 2, 1856.[4][6]
  3. Eunice Ripley, born 1810; married, May 14, 1834, John Gill Nelson; died September 27, 1882.[4][7]
  4. ...and probably others born earlier?

Maj. John Ripley died in New York City on October 8, 1812, aged "47 yrs."[8]

Susannah (Greenleaf) Ripley died at John Street in Manhattan, New York, on November 5, 1812, at the age of 39.[1][2][9] She was buried at Saint Paul's Chapel and Churchyard in New York City.
