Biography

William was born in 1758. He was the son of James Gregory and Sarah Thompson. He passed away in 1836.

Several family accounts give her maiden name as Margaret Morris, while DAR records indicate her birth surname was Price. Her husband William is listed as a Revolutionary soldier and patriot on the DAR memorial placed at Olney in 1935. Because they were married on 11 January 1779 and their first child was born 4 November 1779 (and more children born over the next several years), she would have been married to him and taking care of their family while he was an active duty soldier. She applied for (and was granted) her war widow's pension in 1836 (after William's death) in Lincoln County, NC (before Gaston County was created).

In evidence submitted in support of Margaret's application for a widow's pension, it appears she had at least 13 children (15 are listed in evidence, but the names Elisabeth and Margret are repeated). Some of the dates are confusing; they were given to a clerk in 1836 when she was 78 years old.

In her statement, her children are listed (spelling and dates as listed in evidence): Salley (b. 11/4/1779), Thomson (b. 5/17/1780), Johnson (b. 1/6/1782), Mary (b. 4/15/1783), Marget (b. 1/13/1783 OR 8/14/1794), Fanny (7/5/1786), Hosea (b. 1/7/1788), Joseph (b. 4/2/1790), Elesabeth (b. 1/15/1792 OR 4/4/1793), Anny (b. 5/25/1791), Nancy (b. 5/2/1795), Susan (b. 12/22/1800), and Mata (b. 2/10/1802).
