DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Ralph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA test-takers in his direct paternal line.
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
John Greystoke is a son. Ralph's family ties to people such as Edmund Grey and Matilda Percy whom he names in his will, seem strongly to suggest that his allegiance was likely towards Richard III. Richard III marries his illegitimate daughter Katherine Plantagenet to William Herbert. William is the brother of Matilda (Herbert) Percy, and of John Greystoke's wife Cecilie Herbert m. 1484. Katherine's mother is putatively Katherine Haute, wife of James Haute, son of William Haute. Ralph is half-cousin to Richard III - their mothers are half-sisters - so this would give further basis to this allegiance. Pedigree at Flowers Yorkshire 1564 p.151
