Research Notes
There are no Griffins in the Griffiths Valuation for Killbuonia,[5] but a Michael Griffin in a household of 1 male and 1 female lived there in 1834.[6] This Michael could be Sylvester's father, but Sylvester's eldest known son (though born 5 years after his marriage) is named John, which would not be following the traditional naming pattern of the first son being named after his paternal grandfather. His first two daughters were born in Ballycarbery, and a Sylvester Griffin son of John was born there in 1873,[7] so an origin in Ballycarbery is also possible.
