Sarah was born on 25 Jun 1795 in Hebron, Cumberland, Massachusetts[1] (not likely in Sumner, Cumberland, Massachusetts[2] as her family was in Hebron, MA in 1800[3], and only moved to Sumner, MA between 1820[4] and 1830[5]). Sarah was the daughter of Seth Gurney of Bridgewater, Plymouth County, Massachusetts and Abigail (Dunham) Gurney of Carver, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. Seth was the son of Elisha Gurney and Jane Kingman Gurney.
Seth was born about 1772. Abigail was the daughter of John Dunham and Mary Thomas Dunham. Abigail was born on 20 April 1771. Abigail and Seth were married in 1794 in Hebron, Oxford County, Maine. Abigail and Seth had five children. They were: Seth Gurney birth date is unknown; Abigail Gurney birth date is unknown; Sarah "Sally" Gurney; Calvin Dunham Gurney was born on 30 March 1798 in Hebron, Oxford County, Maine; and Rhoda Cary Gurney was born about 1805 in Hartford, Oxford County, Maine.
Sarah married John Marshall on 20 May 1814 in Hebron, Oxford County, Massachusetts[6][7].
Sarah and John had eleven children. Their children were born in Hebron, Oxford County, Massachusetts/Maine:
Sarah lived with her son Nathan in 1870 in West Roxbury, Norfolk County, Massachusetts[12]. She died on 24 Aug 1880 of dysentery in the Austin Farm Almshouse in Boston, MA[2], and was buried in the Swan Pond Cemetery in Hartford, Oxford County, Maine[13].
