DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Sam by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Sam:
You have altered the birthdate of this Samuel Hacker to facilitate a merge. However, you show no source for the birthdate you have given. The only source for this Samuel Hacker appears to be the 1850 census which shows his age as 45, thus making his birth in 1805, as previously given in the profile. What source is there for the earlier birthdate?
In my family tree on Ancestrey.com, Samuel Hacker is my 6th Great Grandfather. If you have ancestry, you can see hints which are historical facts. The 1850 Census may say he was 45 and born in 1846, however, the 1860 census says that he was born in 1795. I received another hint which sources find a grave that states his birth year is 1797. As he was an obvious duplicate, I fixed his uncertain birth year with the correct one. Here is the link.
Jonah - most hints from Ancestry family trees are not historical facts. They should not be relied on without actual records. The same is true of FindAGrave. Most errors in genealogy come from such origins.
A census record is a far more reliable source of historical fact. If you have an 1860 census record that places his birth earlier, you should add it to the relevant profiles, perhaps with a Research Note to discuss the conflict between the two records. Otherwise, people will be justified in rejecting your merge.
There were numerous Samuel Hackers in that region at that time. I am descended from one. Care must be taken not to conflate two distinct individuals.
Jonah - I have taken a look at the sources for Samuel Hacker. It would seem that the 1850 census is the one in error and his actual birthdate is about 1795. The Ancestry transcript is also in error listing his wife as "Nancy". The actual record clearly states it as "Chaney" as do all other records I have seen. There is a 1860 census showing a Nancy Roberts, but she is the wife of a Hezakiah Roberts.
These records also place the births of both Samuel and Chaney in Kentucky, after statehood. The birthplace in Tennessee is likely to be incorrect.
