Biography

Gus emigrated to the U.S. in 1878, homesteaded 15 miles E and 1/2 mile N of Alva, OK., Sept. 16,1893. Served as Deputy U.S. Marshall, sheriff, and judge of Woods County. He was a Lt. Col. U.S. Vol. 32nd Infantry; organizer and promoter of the Ok. Nat'l Guard; Attorney at Law from 1910 to 1958; Member of the Cherokee Strip Cowpuncher Assn.; member of Christian Church; 50 year member AF & AM Lodge. Gus was serving as a U.S. Marshall, serving in OK when it became a state. Lizzie and Gus' sone, Robert, and grandson, William, both graduated OK University Law School at Norman and practiced law as Hadwiger & Hadwiger, Atty's, in Enid, Oklahoma.

All are buried in the Alva Cemetery, Alva, OK
