Johann was born in 1702. He passed away about 1796.

[1] According to Hank Jones, Henry Heger arrived in New York as a boy of eight years. Although he appears to have been travelling alone, he must have been in the company of extended family.
Primary Immigrant: Heger, Johann Henrich
Household Members:
Johann Henrich Heger
Arrival Year: 1710
Arrival Place: New York, New York

Manuscript.[2]Hendrick Heeger is among those listed as owning land in Albany County NY in 1768

Findagrave.[3]Johann Heinrich Hager was born on the 1st of September 1702 in Siegen, Kreis Siegen-Wittgenstein, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.
He died on the 13th of July 1796, aged 93, in Blenheim, Schoharie County, New York, having served in the Revolutionary War and helping achieve independence for the new Nation.

Book.[4] Henry's 1st wife was Anna Dorothea Kast, who was only 15 when they married on August 6, 1730. She was dead within two years, after giving birth to Anna Marie (Mary) Hager on the 4th of October 1732.

His second wife was Anna Gertrude Petrie.

It appears that all of the Hagers from Siegen, Germany, are all related in some way. This includes the Hagers of Hagerstown, David (1712) and Jonathan (1719); Killian "Callie"Hager (<1729) of Westmoreland County; Johannes Hager (1734)(1724?) of Berks County; Johannes Hager (~1701); Jacob Hager Sr (<1765) of Chester County; Hendrick Hager (1702); and the Haugers of Indiana.

His story is told in[5] LDS Ref 929.273 H122hw. He emigrated on Dec 25 1709 at the age of seven for New York, and settled in the Hudson River Valley, Schoharie Co, NY. The family history claims that one of his brothers settled in Hagerstown, MD (that was a half-brother, Jonathan, founder of Hagerstown).

Henry Z. Jones has done a lot of genealogical research on the Palatines who came to New York in the early 1700s, including some Hager research. Some of his records do not agree with other research records, and the conflicts might never be resolved. Hank Z Jones, "The Palatine Families of New York 1710".

Hendrick Hager had a will dated 13 Sep 1793 in which he mentions his wife Gertrude; his sons Jacob, Hans Yost, and David; daughters Anna Becker, Sarah Borst, Catenne Vannes, Delia Vrooman, Elisabeth Braun, Eva Mattice, and Dorothy Mattice. Executors were his John Jost and others.

Hendrick (1702) and three of his brothers (incl. Michael and Johannes) were accompanied by their uncle Rev. Johan Frederick Heger (and wife Maria), left Rotterdam Dec 25 1709, arriving in New York in Jun 1710. They settled in the Hudson River Valley in New York's Schoharie County.

Henry Cady's report states "Henry Heger and wife Dorothea lived in the Mohawk Valley where he was a Patentee at Burnestfield on the north side of the river 30 Apr 1725. The family moved to Schoharie County late in 1745 or early 1746 where he received a grant of 900 acres at Fulton. Hendrick was naturalized on 3 May 1766. He was a freeholder at Schoharie in 1763. He was captured by the Tories and Indians in August 1780 and held for eleven months." Henry Cady was in error in many of his findings or assumptions; this appears to have been one.

From Roger Wilson: " I believe I have a copy of his will from the Schoharie Co. surrogate's office. The will is dated September 13, 1793. Hendrick leaves his estate to: Gertrude, his wife; sons; Jacob, JohnJost, and David; unmarried daughter Maria HAGER and married daughters; Anna BECKER, Sarah BORST, Caterine VANNEST, Delia VROMAN, Elizabeth BROWN, Gertrude BROWN, Eva MATTICE and Dorothy MATTICE. The son's names are repeated in "Exploits of Captain Jacob Hager" in the Spring-Summer 1965 of The Schoharie County Historical Review" along with Joseph and Peter HAGER and daughter Gertrude. Jacob is buried in the Hager Family Cemetery near Blenheim, NY.

There are at least two extensive genealogies of the family at the Old Stone Fort Museum in Schoharie, NY. This branch of the HAGER family may be more than you want to hear about as the authors of the above genealogies traced a number of generations. The Museum is only open until Oct. 31 and usually reopens in May. They have a good website Click here: The Old Stone Fort Museum, a Revolutionary War battle site or if that doesn't work http://www.schohariehistory.net/OSF.htm."

Per Mel Mattice, he may have had a second wife, Dorothy Kast.

Who this Johann Heinrich "Hendrick" Hager is not known. It cannot be the one who married Anna Gertrud Petrie, for the children of Dorothea Kast were born in 1731 and 1732, whereas the marriage between the other Johann Heinrich "Hendrick" Hager took place in 1730. This Johann Heinrich "Hendrick" Haeger had to have been born before 1715, for that is when Dorothea Kast was born, and the marriage took place in 1730; he had to have been at least 21 years old to marry. The one who married Anna Gertrud Petrie was born in 1702, and he is the only one found in that age range.

On page 323 of Henry Z. Jones' The Palatine Families of New York 1710 (which I think I sent you) it says that "The Hunter Ledger recorded that she(Anna Maria Jacobi Hager) married John Muller as reflected in the Journal entry of 29 Sept. 1711. A letter back to Germany dated 10 July 1749 and written jointly by Anna Maria( Jacobi) Hager and her second husband Johannes Muller mentioned.... we arrived in 1710 in N.Y. after a long and troublesome journey, and then during harvest time my husband (Rev. Johann Heinrich Hager, I assume) d. after a short illness, being well at noon and dead in the evening. The infant boy, b. to us in Germany, Henr. Hager by name, has md. here (Henry Hager and Anna Petrie, I assume) and has 11 living ch. I have remarried in 1711. My husband, Johannes Muller by name, still living in the grace God, comes from Rutershausen, district office of Ebersbach, by whom in peaceful matrimony together we had 5 sons and 3 daughters which the Lord up to this time has kept alive; of them 4 sons and two daughters are md."

Dec. 1, 1768 Hendrick Hager received a patent for 900 acres in Fulton.

BLENHEIM- The Town of Blenheim was formed from Schoharie Mar. 17, 1797. The first settlement was made by Hendrick Hager and his sons Jacob, John, Peter, Joseph and David in 1740.

Hendrick Hager first settled at German Flats and married Gertrude Petrie, sister of the wife of Gen. Herkimer. He was a soldier in the French and Indian Wars 1750 and served in the War of the Revolution under his son Capt. Jacob Hager. His buildings were burned and he was captured and taken to Canada.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Henry by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Henry:

This profile mentions 2 Reverend Hagers that Henry is related to: an uncle Rev. Johan Frederick Heger and a Rev. Johann Heinrich Hager. Are there any existing records of the work they might have done in the Mohawk or Schoharie valleys after they arrived? I've long been looking for an early marriage (~1720) for my ancestor Johan Jurgh Kast jr. and think a Rev. Hager might have married them since there was this connection between the two families. But I haven't found church records of a Rev. Hager anywhere. Anybody run across such records?

His marriages overlap in this profile. The 6 Aug 1730 marriage would be the 1st marriage, His next would be about 1734 (after the birth of his daughter Anna Maria (b. 4 Oct 1732) and before Annatie abt 1735. (From Early Families of Herkimer County, New York).

Both his wives were born in 1715 and would have been 15 in 1930.

This is now fixed. Thanks for the heads up.

Hager-2006 and Hager-263 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicates. Spouses are first and second wives, but all dates are identical. Johann Heinrich is probably the correct given name.

Jones (1985) contributes or corroborates a good deal of evidence for this profile.

In addition to the extensive passage above including his mother’s remarkable letter (p. 323f), Jones finds a ‘probable’ baptism record for Henrich in that of an unnamed son of Johann Henrich Hager and Maria at Anzhausen Dec. 23 1703. This comports fairly well with the ages in the subsistence lists.

He places him on the Burnetsfield patent in 1725, states his naturalization on May 3 1755 and finds him a freeholder in Schoharie in 1763. He alludes to the wartime capture story, pointing at Simms’ History of Schoharie as a source.

In proposing the marriage to Dorothea Kast Jones cites the Burnetsfield record, the will of Georg Kast and the confirmation record of Dorothea’s daughter Anna Maria. For the Petri marriage he gives us extensive detail of their 13 children (324f).

He identifies without detail the Sept. 13 1793 Schoharie will (p. 324).

Hi Bruce. Lisa Jewett added at least 5-6 original sources to the familysearch profile last year. I left a link under research notes. Happy 2020 Mike M.
