James Hall was born on May 8, 1787, in Strafford, Vermont, his father, Elihu, was 29 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 34. He married Fidelia Phidelia Pitts on October 17, 1811, in St Lawrence, New York. They had nine children in 15 years. He died on April 13, 1868, in Lamont, Michigan, having lived a long life of 80 years, and was buried there.
