Biography

Mary (Hall) King was born in Appalachia, in Georgia.
Mary (Hall) King was born in Murray County.

Mary Anna R. Hall was born about 1845 to Levi Wilson Hall and Kissiah Skelton in Murray County, Georgia.

Mary Anna R. Hall married John Edley Hood on March 8, 1860 in Pickens County, Georgia. The result of their union was one son, Miles Samuel Hood. Shortly after their marriage and the birth of Miles, John went off to war and was killed in battle in 1864.

Mary Anna married Ebenezer Pettigrew King on June 14, 1868 in Pickens County, Georgia. The marriage record of Anna and Ebenezer lists her last name as Wells. This adds a bit of confusion but can easily be explained by either a marriage to an unknown Wells between 1864 and 1867, a typographical error or she gave a false name.

Mary Anna and her son Miles Hood can be found on the 1870 Pickens County, Georgia Census in the home and married to Ebenezer P King. She is listed as Anna King. The fact that her son Miles is with her in the 1870 Census, and Anna & Ebenezer's first daughter Sarah Ellen is in the 1870 and 1880 Census is overwhelming evidence that this is the same Mary Anna R (Hall). The death certificate of their daughter Roxie Alice (King) Evans lists her mother as Anna Hall. The California death index of their daughter Louvenia L Baugh also lists her mothers last name as Hall. It should also be noted that Mary Anna R Hall's older brother William Jeremiah Hall married Zilla Frances King, the daughter of Ebenezer P King and his first wife Margaret. Them being In-laws first is definitely the connection, and it was not uncommon for close families to intermarry.

Anna can be found listed as Widowed on the 1900 Jasper, Pickens, Georgia Census with their son Walter and youngest daughter Dora. The final resting place of Mary Anna R (Hall) Hood-King is at Summerville Cemetery. She passed away on December 3, 1938 in Summerville, Chattooga, Georgia.
