Jennie was born in about 1866 in Ashton under Lyne to Joseph Hall and his second wife, Sarah. Joseph had a grocer's shop, as well as working as a builder, according to the 1871 census, and his wife also worked in the shop. Jennie became a sick nurse (1891-1901 census) and later ran a beauty parlour. Some time between 1901 and 1910 she emigrated to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, possibly with the family of an invalid she was nursing.
Her niece Sylvia wrote this short biography "Aunt Jennie eldest, was nurse. Worked for family named Holt (Chorlton cum Hardy) as nurse/nanny for many years & travelled with them. Later went to USA. Several places but finally to Bremerton, near Washington & Vancouver. She ran a beauty parlour & beauty advice business for some time. Very late on indeed married a Swede - turned out unhappily - they divorced - he went off & she reverted to the name Hall. No children; d. White Center, WA before 1958; remarried a widower (Tom) died in hospital after leg surgery."
