Biography
Silas Hancock was born in England.
He was born in Cornwall in December 1854.[1]
He arrived in Adelaide in 1876 on the Forfarshire, and immediately left for Kapunda where he worked in the stone quarries and later in the Kapunda Copper Mine. Following the closure he became a builder and in Morgan he built the first store, and helped in the building of the first cottage and a Hotel. He was a Mine Carpenter at Mootooroo Copper Mine and also at Broken Hill before moving to the Norseman Gold mines in WA for 2 years. In early 1911 he settled at Southwark, a suburb of Adelaide.
He is buried at the West Terrace Cemetery in Adelaide.
