Biography

Based on the names of her early children and a brief note in "History of Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania" by Blackman, Emily C., she first married Joseph Baker. Wealthy Baker married Hiram Wells on 23 Jan 1835 in Richland County, Ohio.[1] He was a widower whose wife, Elizabeth Newton, died in 1834. Their son Thomas Wells was born in 1833 and appears with the family in the 1850 census.

1830 census, household of Joseph Baker, Bloomfield, Richland, OH: 4 sons and 2 daughters under 15 years. Welthy's brother Mordecai is next door.

Children (from 1850 census):

Joseph Baker b 1831
William V. Baker b 1831
Sidney Wells (1835 - 1840 Morrow, OH, from Find a Grave)
Coridon (Corydon) Wells b 1837
Ely Wells b 1838
Charles Wells b 1840
Lewis M. Wells b 1843

She is mentioned in the 1839 will of her father Amos Harding "8th I give to Welthy Wells my oldest daughter fifty dollars. 9th I give to Amos H. Baker son of my daughter Welthy fifty dollars" (see profile for Amos Harding). This suggests there were earlier children than those known from the 1850 census. The 1820 census has two males and one female under 10 years old. In 1830 there are two more sons and a daughter.

Welthy Baker is found in the tax assessment rolls of North Bloomfield Township, Richland, Ohio, from 1834-1837 [2].
