Mary Elizabeth was born in 1888 at New Holland, Lincolnshire, the daughter of Charles Albert Hare and Sarah Ellen Hare formerly Barraclough. [1]
She was baptised on 4 March 1888 at Barton St Mary, Barton upon Humber, Lincolnshire. At that time the family was living at New Holland and her father was a tile maker. Mary's date of birth was recorded as 12 January 1888. [2]
By the time of the 1891 census the family had moved north and were living at Kexby, Yorkshire. Mary was aged 3 years. [3]
In the 1901 census Elizabeth, as named, aged 13, and younger sister Eva, aged 3, were staying with their maternal grandparents at Rose Cottage, Waterside Rd, Barton on Humber. [4]
In 1911 Mary, aged 23, was living with her maternal grandparents William and Amelia Barraclough at their home, Rose Cottage, Barton on Humber. [5]
In the 1921 census Mary was living with her brother Albert Hare and family at Brickyard Cottage, Thirsk, Yorkshire. Albert, aged 34, was a brick, tile and pipe maker and burner at the brick works, Thirsk Junction. His wife Annie was aged 32 and son Charles Stewart aged 2. Mary Elizabeth was aged 33. [6]
Mary Elizabeth Hare died in 1939 aged 51 years. [7]
She was buried on 11 May 1939 at Kexby. The burial register recorded her address at the time of her death as Sycamore House, Kexby, her parent’s home. [8]

Her will read -
This is the last Will and Testament of me Mary Elizabeth Hare of Sycamore House Kexby in the County of York Spinster
I revoke all former Wills by me at any time made
I appoint my brother Charles Hare of the York and Acomb Brickworks Hull Road York Manager Sole Executor of this my Will
I give devise and bequeath to my sister Eva Barraclough Hare of Sycamore House Kexby all my real and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever for her own use absolutely
I direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon as may be after my decease
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this First day of February in the year of our Lord One thousand nine hundred and thirty-six Mary E Hare

Of interest the witness Frank Hare was Mary's cousin, son of George William Hare.
