Siblings of Thomas Harmon
Thomas Harmon was born in 1774 in Botetourt Co., Virginia, according to West Virginians in the American Revolution, but he was born about 1789-1790 according to the censuses. Based on the date of his marriage, the 1774 date is rather implausible. His marriage to Jane McCallister is recorded in Kanawha Co., Virginia [now West Virginia], in 1812. They were married by John Lee or See. She was born about 1779 in Virginia, the daughter of Richard McCallister. They lived near Red House Shoals, Putnam Co., Virginia [now West Virginia].

Pastors Who Have Served at Union Baptist Church Since 1835
Rev. Thomas Harmon 1835 - 1839
When the Civil War began in 1861, the Union Troops occupied the building as a garrison to protect the old covered bridge, which crossed Mud River just below the church, which was replaced with a more modern structure in 1956. Marks or imprints of the bullets can still be seen in the bricks of the building. The soldiers left the building with the floors, seats, gallery, doors and windows all torn out and burned.
Thomas Harmon, preached sermons at the home of John C. Rece until the church was reorganized in 1867. Between this date and 1875, the church was repaired and the Gallery rebuilt. It was also during this time the seats and pulpit were purchased. The pulpit stand was donated to the Baptist Camp which is being built near Ona, and the seats were sold to Buffalo Baptist Church, when the new seats were purchased in 1960.[1][2]
