Biography

Sherwood Harris and Rebecca Wilkins married 12 April 1773, Granville, North Carolina. Another Sherwood Harris signed the marriage bond. The Sherwood who married Jane died in 1763, eliminating him from the bond signer.[1]

In the marriage application log books, for Sherwood Harris and Rebecca Wilkins and Judith Woodall, in most cases the applicant signed as the male and as one of the bondsman. A second bondsman also signs. It also appears that the clerk may do all or most of the signing. Therefore only one Sherwood was at each marriage application that we can know of with certainty.
