Louis enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps on 21 Oct 1942 at Camp Forrest, Tennessee. ++ His service number was 14159196. In Jan 1943, he was admitted to the military hospital on the Jefferson Barracks Military Post in Jefferson Barracks, Missouri and was diagnosed with a "deformity or disease of the spine" that was determined to have existed prior to his entry into military service. Due to the disability, Louis was discharged on 6 Feb 1943. [6][7][8]
Louis passed away at the Carter County Memorial Hospital in Elizabethton, Carter County, Tennessee on 4 Aug 1983 from a heart attack. [9]

++Camp Forrest, Tennessee
Originally established in 1926 for training the Tennessee National Guard, it became a Federal training area on 10 Jan 1941. Camp Forrest officially became a prisoner-of-war camp on 12 May 1942, housing Italian and German POWs. The camp also held Japanese, German and Italian American civilians who were arrested at the outbreak of the war under the "Alien Enemy Control" program. The camp was deactivated on 30 Jun 1946. [10]
