Eliza (Hartshorne) Anderson was born in Worcestershire, England.
Eliza was born in about 1838, the daughter of George Hartshorne and Ann Haynes. Her birth was registered in the Stourbridge registration district in the last quarter of 1838. [1]
In 1841 Eliza's family were residing in Great Trinity Lane in the parish of St Mildred Bread Street, City of London. Her father George was described as a Commission Agent. [2]
On 23 April 1859, Eliza married Luke Anderson at Trinity Church, Newington St Mary, Surrey. [3] The marriage record confirms that Eliza's father is George.
In 1861, Eliza, Luke and their daughter Anna Maria were living in London where Luke was employed as an Engine Smith. [4]
By 1871, Eliza and Luke had moved their family to Dudley in Staffordshire. [5] The family had grown to include 6 children: Anna Maria, George, Wallace, Luke, Percy and Arthur, and a servant. Luke was described as an Engineer.
1881 saw the family back in the south with Luke working as the manager of a railway signal depot. They were living in Lugard Rd, Camberwell. The children listed in the residence were Anna Maria, George, Wallace, Luke, Percy, Arthur, Alfred, Eliza, Edith, James Herbert and William Edward. [6]
In 1891 the family were still in Camberwell. Luke was managing an engineering works and Luke, Percy, Arthur, Eliza, Edith, James and William were still living at home. [7]
Eliza, Luke and children Luke, Edith and William were still residing in Camberwell in 1901. Luke was still working as a mechanical engineer although it appeared he was running his own business rather than working for anyone else. [8]
By 1911 Eliza had been widowed. She was living in Pendleton, Lancashire with her still unmarried daughter Anna Maria. [9]
