  • First-hand information. Entered by Susan Harwood at registration.

I am the third child of James K. Harwood and Martha E. Coolidge born in Dorset, Bennington County, Vermont, on June 13, 1950. I had two siblings: a brother, James K. Harwood, Jr., still living; and a sister, Deborah Kay Harwood Mauro, who died in 2007. I have one adopted daughter.

I was married to a Rollins, but am now divorced. I currently reside in Atlanta, Georgia, with my daughter, a college student.

Both of my parents grew up in Dorset, Vermont, as children of farmers. My grandfather, Harlan Coolidge, owned a large dairy farm in Dorset Hollow for years. My father's family, Samuel F. Harwood and Ada Jeanette Kendall Harwood, lived sometimes on the Harwood farm in Dorset and some of the time in Trenton, New Jersey, where Ada's family resided.

I have personally researched generations of my heritage by travelling throughout Vermont back in the 1980's to copy records from town clerk's offices , as well as, spending time writing as fast as my hand would go at the state archives in Montpilier, VT. Generations of my family tree lived in Vermont.

I hope to contact my sister's son with whom I have lost contact, John Michael Mauro III.

My father's Harwood lineage came to America in 1620. I have Harwood Genealogy Books.

Hi Susan,

I am a maiden name, Harwood with a 1950's sister Susan Harwood Belting. My great great grandfather, Samuel J Harwood born 1811 To Aaron Harwood and Abigail Ford, lived prior to moving west, near his grandfather, Samuel Harwood and Lydia Kenney/Kinney In Braintree Vermont in Orange County.

What intrigues me about your Samuel Harwood is his middle name Farrar which looks like it comes from his mother. In Salem Mass., there are town records where a Mary Walcott marries a Farrar, there is a second marriage to David Harwood, and many children from both marriages. The Historians like H Watson Harwood in 1912 did not sort them all out. Have you run across the Harwood Farrar connections, many of the records are in the Essex Institute at the university of VA. Hi Susan

You are now a confirmed member, and you can get started adding your family members. As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is

How to Start Climbing Our Tree.

Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.

Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

You can have fun with our Question of the Week in the G2G forum:

where you do start your offline research?

Welcome

Susan,

Hello and Welcome to WikiTree! The email we just sent has helpful links to get you started.

WikiTree is different than other genealogy websites because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we work together on our share ancestors!

When you confirm your email address, you’ll be given an opportunity to volunteer to help document our collective family history.

Use the Tags and comments to tell us about your genealogical interests. It can be a name, like SMITH, or a place, like SCOTLAND. Be sure to click the "Enter Tag(s) and Volunteer" button when you finish!

When you volunteer, one of our Greeters will confirm your membership. Then you'll be able to add your family to the tree!

Emma--Wiki Greeter

We're really glad you're here!
