Biography

Joseph Haynes was baptized in Salem, Massachusetts Bay Colony on October 18, 1683. [1][2]He was one of several children born to Thomas Haynes and Sarah Ray.

Joseph Haynes was mentioned in the will of his father, Thomas Haynes, in 1709 and in the will of his brother, Benjamin Haynes, in 1723. [3]

He married Hannah Clemson in 1717. [4][5] [6]

She was baptized on August 2, 1692 in Tettenhall Parrish, Staffordshire, England. She was the daughter of James Clemson and Katherine Wright. Joseph Haynes and Hannah Clemson had several children including Bartholomew Haynes (1718), David Haynes (1720), and James Haynes (1723). [7]

In 1733, Joseph Haynes and his wife, Hannah Clemson, sold fifty acres of land in Lancaster County, Province of Pennsylvania to John Clemson, brother of Hannah Clemson. Joseph Haynes was a carpenter and described as being a "seceder", a dissenting Presbyterian.[8]

The will for Joseph Haines listed (12) in the biography and sources above was a member of the Nottingham Quakers. His family records are listed in the book Nottingham Quakers 1680-1889 (Births, Deaths and Marriages) by Alice L. Beard p. 40-41. Joseph's first wife was named Dorothy who died in 1719 and his second wife was named Elizabeth. Between his two wives he had twenty children. Many of them died young and he would repeat the name with another child. Ten of these children were mentioned in his will (Job, William, Daniel, Nathan, Isaac, Joseph, Ruth Miller, Deborah, Ann Sidwell, and Dorothy)

This is not the Joseph Haynes who was the father of Bartholomew, James, David and daughters Garrison and Balch.

Haynes-2732 and Haynes-1107 appear to represent the same person because: after a side-by-side comparison, they are the same person. Same name, almost same birth date, same spouse, same siblings.
