ACCIDENT'S FATAL SEQUEL:[3]

Mr. B. A. Hazeldine, - who met with a serious accident on Monday last, died on Friday evening (writes our Portland correspondent). He was engaged in erecting a dwelling house for Mr. Sutton, on the Magazine hill, and was standing on the rafters taking pieces of timber that were being handed up to him by an assistant, when one of the rafters upon which he was standing broke, and precipitated him a distance of 12 feet. He fell upon the flooring joists and received shocking injuries, His left wrist and three ribs were broken, and his spine was badly injured just below the neck. He was removed on an ambulance to Miss Brown's private hospital, and attended to by Dr. Sieeman, who regarded his case as hopeless from the first. The uniortunate man, who retained consciousness throughout, gradually sank, and passed away peacefully, as stated, last evening.

Mr. Hazeldine was a native of Portland, but resided for a number of years at Wallacedale, where he married Miss Rundell, who is left a widow with five young children. He was a most estimable citizen, and profound regret is expressed on all hands at his untimely death, and the deepest sympathy is felt for his family In their sad bereavement. He was a member of the rifle club and also of the A.N.A., and was to have taken a prominent part in the A.N.A. concert on Wednesday evening last, in aid of the local hospital, He was a first-class tradesman, and had carried out a number of building contracts successfully.
