Biography

This profile is part of the Herrick Name Study.

Judith Herrick was born on 29 June 1690 in Beverly, Essex, Massachusetts Bay Colony. Her parents were Ephraim & Judith (Woodbury) Herrick.[1] Her parents were married on 2 January 1688/9[2], so Judith was their first-born child. Judith is the only birth on record for them in Beverly, although her siblings Mary and Ephraim were most probably also born there.[3]

Ephraim moved his family to Preston, New London, Connecticut Colony about 1694.[4] His daughter Anna was born there on 5 February 1696/7.[5]

Judith married Jacob Burton on 11 June 1712, in Preston. They had children, all born in Preston:[5]

  1. Isaac (1713), married his cousin Hannah Burton
  2. Jacob (1715), married Rachel Benton[6]
  3. Jerusha (1719), married William Rogers
  4. Israel (1721/2), married Silence (Herrick), as her third husband
  5. Judith (1723), married Perez Partridge
  6. Hannah (1725)
  7. Priscilla (1726/7), married James Benjamin

Judith, wife of Jacob, died on 12 August 1728, in Preston.[5]

Jacob married, second, Mary Herrick, daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth Herrick, on 20 August 1729, in Preston.[5] Stephen Herrick was a brother of Ephraim[4], so Mary was a younger first cousin (b.1705) of Jacob's first wife Judith. Jacob and Mary had six children together. Mary died on 4 August 1645.[5] In 1751 Jacob married, third, Mary (Benjamin) Yarrington, as her second husband.[7]
