Charles was born in 1868 Kingston, WI. He passed away in 1936, Okmulgee, OK. His parents were Alonzo Porter Hewett Sr (1831-1919) from Ohio and Kate Knowlton (1833-1896) from NY. He married Beulah Annetta Reagin (1872-1955) in 1891. Their children include:

Charles Alonzo Hewett was a band leader for many different community bands, moving his family often, and, with his family, a traveling vaudeville performer on the cornet, violin, and many other instruments. The act was called the Musical Hewetts and they toured the country many years on the Orpheum Circuit west of the Mississippi. A book on three generations of the Hewett family by Avrel Seale, great-grandson of Charles Alonzo Hewett, was published in 2024. The book includes the lives of Alonzo Porter Hewett and Kate Knowlton Hewett and their four children who survived to adulthood: Frank Hewett, also an accomplished touring musician and magician; Edith Hewett White, a pioneering female dentist; Nettie Hewett Van Epps Hawkins, a real estate broker and El Paso's first oil speculator; and Charles Alonzo Hewett.
