William was born in 1837. He was the son of William Hind and Agnes Aitcheson.

In the 1851 census William (age 14) was the son of William Hind on Cart Road, Vicinity of Camelon, Falkirk, Stirlingshire. He was an Iron Stone Miner.^[2]

In the 1861 census William (age 23) was the son of William Hind in Lochfauld Cottages, Cadder, Lanarkshire. He was an Iron Miner.^[3]

William married Isabella Wilson on 27 June 1862 in Cadder, Lanark, Scotland.^[4]
