Biography
Samuel Morrison Prentiss was born 1801 in New Hampshire. He was the son of of James Prentiss (1755-1829), who had changed his name from James Hogg, and his wife Janet Morrison (1729-1799). In his early childhood he moved with parents moved to Warrensville OH. When he was 17 his father passed away, and he had to help take care of the family. Samuel is in Ohio in the 1830, 1840, and 1850 U.S. Federal Censuses. He is living in Michigan in the 1860 Census.
He married Anna Wilcox Warren on 26 Oct 1820 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. Soon after his marriage he joined with the Reformed Methodist church, then later the Protestant Methodist Church and began to preach. About 14 years later he became a Free Baptist. He was licensed to preach about 1842 and was ordained in 1844. He preached in Ohio and Michigan. While in Warrenville he was elected to Justice of the Peace, and more than once was Trustee of the town. He was anti-slavery and a strong advocate for temperance. Samuel’s Funeral Service said that he was a cheerful man with a good Christian character.
Samuel’s Funeral Service mentioned that he had 13 children, 10 of whom were living in December 1879, and three were dead. We have records that tell us which children were living in 1879. The three that were not living were Mary, Martha, and Lucy. Samuel passed away 8 Dec 1879 in Muskegon, Michigan.

Birth death date of 15 Oct 1800 used in a Find A Grave memorial is the date for Samuel Prentiss (1800-1853) who married Alice Ann Seaver. He lived his entire life in New Hampshire.
His Funeral Service writeup stated that Samuel Morrison Prentiss was born in 1801 in Langdon, New Hampshire. He moved with his family to Warrenville, Ohio, when a child.
