Nathaniel Holmes, son of John and Patience (Faunce) Holmes was born about 1675, based on his marriage date as well as siblings born before him. He married Eleanor Racer.[1] Another source shows Eleanor's last name at birth could be Bacor or Baker. They married March 31, 1700 at Plymouth.[2]
Probate
His will is dated 1734 and proved on 18 May 1737 in Plymouth. He was a mariner. He mentions his wife Eleanor and his children, Joseph, Benjamin, Mercy Tinkham, Patience Holmes, and Melatiah Holmes.[3]
In 1738, his son Benjamin was granted the administration of his estate. His son Joseph who was named in the will as executor had died.[4]
In 1745, his son Benjamin, administrator of his estate asked the probate court to appoint someone else. He was sick and it was affecting him in his intellectual faculties, especially his memory.[5]
In 1745, the court then granted Samuel Nelson of Plymouth the administration of his estate.[6]
His inventory was recorded on 20 December 1745 in Plymouth.[7]
In 1746, an account of his debts and estate charges was recorded.[8]
In 1765, his real estate was appraised again and then divided between his heirs, the heirs of Mercy Tinkham, Patience Holmes, and Melatiah Holmes.[9]
