DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships.
It is likely that these
autosomal DNA
test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
I am descended from Mary "Polly" Holmes (1789?-1872) and Stephen S. Doty (1791-1870). That much is well-documented. My question concerns who her parents actually are.
Some people give an Ebenezer Holmes and Polly Southard as her parents, but with no evidence. I have yet to turn up anything at all relevant about those people in connection to Mary Holmes except their names, always in unsourced trees. Searching through numerous Ebenezer Holmes, I have found none who married a Mary or Polly Southard (or its many variations).
Yet I see here her parents are given as Benjamin Holmes and Mary Cleveland, but still with nothing connecting my Mary to them. What sources are there that my Mary is their daughter? Worse still, I see that there is another daughter Mary, who wed Leonard Lull. Surely Benjamin Holmes and Mary Cleveland did not have two daughters named Mary.
Can anyone help me sort this out?
