[2] In 1861 Frederick aged 12 and his sisters Eleanor and Elizabeth, were inmates of the Lincoln Union Workhouse. His parents do not appear in the census. Aged 21 in 1871 he was boarding in Leeds, employed as a farmer's man [4] and on 25 September 1877 at St Jude, Hunslet he married local girl, Sarah Fryer, daughter of Fryer-542. [5] [6] They were living at 29 Durham Street, Leeds in 1881 together with Jane Fryer, Sarah's 60 year old mother, Frederick employed as a general labourer, supporting all of them [7]picture and in 1901 was working for a coal agent. [8]
