Sarah Salome, known as Salome, was the daughter of Maria Webley and John Hopkins of Avening, Gloucestershire.
In the 1851 Census she is recorded as Sax. Salome, her sisters Rhoda, Eliza and Thomas Hopkins are missing on the Census Transcript. [1] Ancestry Version Name Age John Hopkins 64 Maria Hopkins 49 Thos Hopkins 17 Rhoda Hopkins 15 Eliza Hopkins 8 Sax Hopkins 6 [2]
Salome emigrated to Nelson with her mother Maria (who died on the voyage) and sister Louisa on the ship 'Anne Dymes in March 1864.
Her sibling Eliza and half brother Edward had sailed out from England a few years earlier.
Salome married in 1876 to Alexander Stone, a Compositor in Dunedin. One known child was born in their marriage, Alexander Hopkins Stone , born 1877 died April 28, 1968 aged 91, Dunedin.
Salome died at her home in 1892, Russell Street after a long illness aged 48. She is buried at Northern cemetery in Dunedin and recorded as Salome Sarah Stone. BLK 158 PLOT 14.[3]
