John was born to Thomas and Elizabeth (Gaylord) Hoskins, May 29, 1654 at Windsor, Connecticut.^{[1] [2]} John's first wife was Deborah Denslow, whom he married January 29, 1677,^[1][3] at Windsor, Connecticut.^[4]

He next married the widow, Ruth (Unknown/possibly Atkins but not daughter of Thomas) Peck in 1699 (likely in Connecticut).^[1]
