Eddie was born March 2, 1909, in Oskaloosa, Jefferson County, Kansas, the son of Oliver and Cora Ricks Workman. His mother died when he was one year old. He and his brother, Gerald, were living with their Ricks grandparents in Oskaloosa, Jefferson County, Kansas, in 1910.[1] He was raised by his aunt Alta Ricks and her husband, Emmett Hoskinson.[2][3] In 1920 and 1925, Eddie, Emmett and Alta Hoskinson were living in Oskaloosa, Jefferson County, Kansas.[4][5]
Eddie married Vila Hyder in Seymour, Webster County, Missouri, Sept. 9, 1933.[6] They had two daughters. In 1935 and 1940, the family was living in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where Eddie was working as a carpenter.[7] Eddie and Vila divorced in the 1950s.
Eddie served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received an honorable discharge May 4, 1945.[8][9]
Eddie died Jan. 28, 1960, in Leavenworth, Kansas. He is buried Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas.[10]
