Jonas (sometimes found as Jonah) Houghton was born in April of 1663 in Lancaster, Middlesex County, Massachusetts Colony the son of John Houghton III and his supposed wife Beatrix.[1]
After his father's death, Jonas settled in Bolton, Massachusetts, on his father's land on Vaughn's Hill. He served in Queen Ann's war. He was a surveyor and farmer, and appears to have been active in civic affairs.
He married in Woburn, April 15, 1681, Mary Burbean of Woburn. They were staying in Woburn, at the time of their marriage on account of Indian troubles.[2]
Jonas died on September 20, 1723 in Lancaster, Middlesex, Massachusetts and was buried in the Old Common Burial Ground there where his monument read "Here lyes the body of Mr. Jonas Houghton; who Died Sept. 20 1723 aged 60 years & 5 mo." [2] A memorial can be found on Find A Grave.
