Biography

Ann's first husband was John Morris. John is listed in the 1825 census for Erin township, with wife (Ann) and one male child (George).[1] By 1832, two little girls have been added to the family, one of which would have been Susan. The family was living on 9th concession, lot 19 in Erin. John had cleared and was cultivating 7 of his 100 acres.[2]
John died in June 1835, accidentally killed while felling a tree.[3]
Ann remarried in 1838 to John Ribble of Trafalgar.[4]

A Family Altercation - Family Mystery
The following appeared in the Halton Journal in December 1855:
"In 1855, Anne Ribble prosecuted Mary Ribble for assault and battery, the conviction coming on 12 Jul 1855, the fine 0-2-6, to be paid forthwith to the county treasurer."[5] Teeple family researchers, who uncovered this, assumed that this represented a disagreement between Kent County's Nancy (Teeple) Ribble, who the contemporary Teeple's knew as Anne or Annie and her sister-in-law, Mary Nancy Ribble of Bayham Township, Elgin County. Although neither woman lived in Halton County at the time, the death of Elizabeth Ribble in 1854 had likely caused issues for the family in terms of elder care, as Elizabeth's now widower husband William was in his nineties, and this may have been enough to cause a family dispute.
What perhaps the Teeple researchers did not know, was that there was an additional sister-in-law named Annie (House) Ribble, the second wife of William's son John. And this Anne lived in Trafalgar at the time. So she could have been the one involved, rather than Nancy.
It must also be noted that Mary Nancy Ribble was not the only member of the family named Mary. Annie (House) Ribble had a stepdaughter, Mary Matilda Ribble who was about eighteen at this time. Mary Matilda would shortly after this date move to Michigan and marry her cousin. Mary Matilda was only a baby when her father John married Annie. Perhaps this assault was born out of a mother/daughter dispute.
More evidence is needed to determine which is the right interpretation.
