1861 William is not with his family when the census was taken, not sure where he is. In 1871 I believe I have located him in the Lower Part of Crosshill, Renfrewshire, Scotland. Age 31 years, occupation recorded as a Sugar Merchant, birthplace Ayrshire, Relationship to Head of Household a Lodger. [4]
1874 William marries Dorothy Hall. Their marriage was registered in Govan, Lanarkshire, Scotland. [5]
