Biography

Richard Hudson was born in Somerset Co., Maryland in1674, son of Henry Hudson Lydia Smith. He passed away in 1763 in what had become Worcester, County in 1742 [1]

In 1757, his son Samuel Hudson, who was himself a grandfather with two married granddaughters, left his father Richard a black horse during his lifetime.

Richard was a wealthy landowner in Worcester County at the time of his death. His will disposes of more than 600 acres of land (some tracts are not measured).

Will

Richard Hudson's will was signed 5 December 1762. The will was proved on 2 March 1763. It left the following bequests

-to wife Margret – 100 acre tract bought from Thos Bowding & John Hudson. During her lifetime, the use of enslaved people: man named Titus, man named James, and woman named Phib.
-to son John Hudson – 100 acre tract called Lowes Choice bought of William Low, 25 acre tract called Rumbly Marsh. After wife’s death one enslaved man named Tittus [Titus]
-to son Henry Hudson – 25 acres of marsh called Brunt Marsh. After wife’s death one enslaved man named James.
-to son Sollomon Hudson – one half of property called Harrigate, half the land bought from Bulger, 25 acres of land and marsh part of a tract called Powells Hammokes. One enslaved boy or young man named Levi. Also 145 acres of tract named Hardship.
-to son Annanias Hudson – the other part of the Harrigate property, and the rest of the property bought from William Bulger and the Powells Hammokes property. Also 350 acre tract named Hardship. An enslaved girl or young woman named Sarah and an enslaved woman named Phib [Phoebe?]
-to daughter Rachel Pattey – an enslaved girl/young woman named Tammer and an enslaved boy/young man named Steven.
to daughter Leah Richards --- two enslaved girls or young women named Phoebe and Sue.
-to all six children: John Hudson, Henry Hudson, Sollomon Hudson, Annanias Hudson, Rachel Pattey, and Leah Richards – the remainder of the estate
-Executor, wife Margaret Hudson and son Annanias Hudson
-Witnesses: Josiah Mitchell, Caleb Tingle, Stephen Tilghman
